Hour of Code: Minecraft

Learn the basics of coding as our school participates in the Hour of Code. In Minecraft Adventurer, use blocks of code to take Steve or Alex on an adventure through a Minecraft world. In Minecraft Designer, program animals and other Minecraft creatures in your own version of Minecraft. Click on the picture below to get started.

Maker’s Empire

Create your design for 3D printing using the Maker’s Empire app on the iPads. Scan the QR code for your class and create a profile that includes an avatar for yourself. Next explore the modules and select the tutorial that is the best fit for your design. You may use the Shaper or Blocker module. Once you’ve completed the tutorial, you can start creating. Be sure to name your design and let your teacher know when you’re finished.

Strong Passwords

Do you have your own personal account for an app or website? Do you know if the password you chose is strong? Learn about the Do’s and Don’ts of creating passwords and the importance of having a password that is secure. The information will be presented via a Nearpod interactive slideshow on the iPads. If you have extra time, head to the Tower of Treasure on Interland.

Digital Citizenship Pre-test

The Internet is amazing, but there are safety rules to keep in mind while using it. We’ll start by viewing a map of the Internet and discovering the most popular websites. Then you’ll take a digital citizenship pre-test on the iPads using Socrative. The pre-test will ask you questions on topics we’ll explore this year, so don’t worry if you are unsure of the answers to some of the questions. If you have extra time, try Mindful Mountain on your iPad.cartoon_school

iPads: Google Drive/Docs (Grade 5)

We’ll begin by reviewing what you should remember when using an iPad in school. When you get your device, sign in to the Google Drive app first. Create a folder for grade 4 and move all documents that you created last year into that folder. Then, go to the Google Docs app. Finish and check the technology @ home document that you started last week on the computers. Be sure to sign out of your account when finished.

Welcome Back Fifth Graders!

I’m looking forward to another great year of helping you use technology with your learning. I’ll begin by showing you a slideshow that reviews the technology that’s available in our school. Then you will log in and follow the directions on a checklist to locate and bookmark the technology blog. Once finished, log into your Google Drive account and complete the quiz.
